Seil Kim (Tenor)

Born: South Korea

The Korean tenor, Seil Kim (Korean: 김세일), received a diploma in voice from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome (1994-2000) and a concert diploma in voice from the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève (2003-2005). In 2008, the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) awarded him a Soloiste Diploma and named him a “Musiker” (2007-2009). His teachers have included Nicolai Gedda, Franco Corelli, Thomas Quasthoff, Eric Tappy, and Scot Weir. The Winner of the International Schubert Competition in Osaka, Seil has also won Second Prize of the Maria Callas Competition in Athens, Third Prize in the “Das Lied” competition in Berlin, the Swiss Migros Prize (twice), and the Best-Singer Prize of Verbier Festival in Switzerland.

Seil Kim is a sel-employed singer since December 2010. Has performed extensively in Europe and Asia, having sung at Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Vienna Musikverein, State Opera Berlin, Tonhalle Zürich, Handel Festival in Lucerne, and Seoul Arts Center. He was soloist at Opera Studio Nederland (August 2007-August 2008); soloist at Theater Bielefeld (August 2008-August 2009);

Seil Kim has vast repertories in Opera, Oratorio and Art songs, from Baroque to Modern, and among his many critically acclaimed roles are Orphée in La descente d’Orphée aux enfers by Marc-Antoine Charpentier, the Evangelist and Tenor solo in St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) and St. John Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach, and Ernesto in Don Pasquale by Donizetti, and Italian Singer in Il Capriccio by R. Strauss.

Seil Kim recorded the series of “Korean Young Musicians” by KBS Classic FM, in Korea, had a role of Orfeo in opera Orfeo which was Korea premier, (Korean National Opera) performed Carmina Burana with KBS Symphony Orchestra, George Frideric Handel's Messiah with the National Chorus of Korea and had many concert with major orchestras of Korea. He had concert with Helmut Deutsch who is world best lied duo pianist in Sejong Chamber hall and had solo recital as a Kumho Art Hall vocal series. Also he is doing MC of Matinee concert series in Goyang Aram Nuri since April of 2016.

Seil Kim was Guest Professor at Kyung Hee University (March 2012-February 2014), teaching of Lied and Oratorio.
