Micha Matthäus (Bass-Baritone)

Born: Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany

The German bass-baritone, Micha Matthäus, has been studying singing with Kammersänger Professor Andreas Schmidt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München since 2020. Until 2020, he was part of the Bayerische Singakademie, where he was taught by Hartmut Elbert. Since 2021, he has received funding from the Deutschland-Stipendium. He is also a scholarship holder of the Richard-Wagner-Verbandes München and has been a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now since 2023.

In 2023 Micha Matthäus was heard at the Staatstheater Augsburg in Angel's Bone (Du Yun). With the Ensemble LauschWerk, he was part of a new production of George Frideric Handel's Semele at the Bayerischen Staatsoper. At the Musiktheater im Reaktor (Munich) he sang the role of Betto in G. Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. In the coming season (2023-2024), he will make his debut as Figaro in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro in a production at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. In addition, a concert tour will take him to Salvador (Brazil), where he will sing G. Verdi's Requiem under Professor Martin Steidler.

One of Micha Matthäus' particular passions is concert singing and oratorio literature. In addition to more common works by J.S. Bach, J. Haydn or W.A. Mozart, his repertoire also includes less frequently performed oratorios such as G.F. Handel's Saul, Jephta or Israel in Egypt. Under Johanna Soller, with whom he has a close working relationship, he sang Pilatus in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 in 2022, as well as the Evangelist in Hugo Distler's Die Weihnachtsgeschichte .
