Ensemble Nobiles (Vocal Ensemble)

Born: January 2006 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

Ensemble Nobiles was founded in January 2006. The choristers met each other during their nine-year education in fine arts as members of the Thomanerchor Leipzig.

Their repertoire ranges from late medieval mass songs to modern age works. The five young musicians attach great importance to the works of German Romantic composers, such as Schubert, Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn, as well as to their extensive repertoire of church music.

The ensemble has successfully collaborated with a number of other artists, such as Daniel Hope, Juan de la Rubia, Sjaella and New York Polyphony and the composers Manfred Schlenker, Volker Bräutigam (Germany), David Hamilton (New Zealand) and Jeremy Rawson (UK).

Ensemble Nobiles has participated in practical seminars under the direction of vocal teacher Werner Schüssler, John Potter (The Hilliard Ensemble), Anders Jalkéus (The Real Group), Ensemble amarcord, The King's Singers and The Hilliard Ensemble.

In March 2014 Ensemble Nobiles received a grant from the German Music Council and were named to the Federal Selection of Concerts for Young Artists, which recognized young professional musicians. Furthermore the five singers won the Special Prize and a second grant awarded by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben. The quintet won First Prizes in Weimar at the German National Choir Competition 2014, vokal.total.2016 in Graz/Austria and Tampere Vocal Music Festival’s Competition of Vocalensembles 2019.

The Leipzig label, Genuin, released the ensemble’s CD "A German Mass: in May 2012. The record, based upon Deutsche Messe by Franz Schubert interprets the course of a complete church service. The CD "Hugo Distler" was recorded in close collaboration with Sjaella and released in October 2012 in honour of composer Hugo Distler’s 70th death anniversary. "Be Welcome" combines hymns and motets for advent, christmas and epiphany and was released in October 2014. The latest CD "Landkjending/Recognition of Land" with works by Antonin Dvořák, Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius was released in May 2017. Extracts from several concerts and live recordings by Ensemble Nobiles were broadcast in a number of countries.

In addition to several performances in Germany on significant occasions like the renowned Bachfest Leipzig and Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival the ensemble has also performed in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, France, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, USA and the Netherlands.

Ensemble Nobiles is official ambassador of the 'forum thomanum' education campus for Thomanerchor Leipzig.
