Guadalupe Parrondo (Piano)

Born: June 29, 1946 - Lima, Peru

The Peruvian-born Mexican pianist, Guadalupe Parrondo, was born to a Mexican father (Rodolfo Parrondo Castañeda) and a Peruvian mother, Estela Corcuera Romero. Her father was a piano technician, he worked arranging and tuning them, so from the age of 3 she began to study the instrument. Due to the fact that she accompanied her father to tune various instruments, including the tubular organs of churches, she developed the ability to identify notes without a reference point, a skill called absolute pitch. In an interview she recounted that, even, she learned music before learning to read. In the city of Lima she began to give recitals since she was a child, and there she was discovered by the conductor and composer Luis Herrera de la Fuente with whom she performed at the age of 7, the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in D major by Joseph Haydn. In Lima she continued studying piano for a time. In 1966 she moved to Paris, where she studied first with Magda Tagliaferro and later at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. She lived in Paris for 7 years.

Guadalupe Parrondo is recognized for her performances of concert music, both by composers of the international repertoire and Mexican and Latin American composers. She has a piano repertoire that includes the main compositions for the instrument, from J.S. Bach, L.v. Beethoven, Tchaikovski, Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, and also contemporary composers, especially of Mexican and Latin American origin. She premiered Federico Ibarra's Sixth Sonata, which is dedicated to her. She is a regular soloist in the most renowned symphony and philharmonic orchestras in Mexico and often performs frequently in chamber concerts and piano recitals in various European cities and on the American continent, as well as in Egypt and Japan.

Due to her relevance as an interpreter, Guadalupe Parrondo has been invited to participate as a jury in various piano competitions, in Paris, Caracas, Mexico, among other places, as well as to give master classes in the USA, Germany, Venezuela, Peru and Mexico.4

In January 2015 Guadalupe Parrondo participated in the tribute concert to the director and composer Luis Herrera de la Fuente, of whom he performed the soloist part of his Concerto for piano and orchestra, together with the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, conducted by José Guadalupe Flores.

Bach, Béla Bartók, L.v. Beethoven and F. Chopin, and the second with works by Beethoven, Ricardo Castro, Ruiz Armengol, Zúñiga.
