The German conductor, Hans Pflugbeil, founded in 1946 the Greifswalder Bachwoche (Bach Week of Greifswald, East Germany) and was its director continuously until 1974. Before that, he had founded a Bach Festival in Stettin (now Szczecin, Poland):
