Stefanie Schmitt (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: St. Wendel/Saarland, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Stefanie Schmitt, started playing the piano at the age of 6. 7 years later the organ was added as a second instrument, later a choir direction training. At the age of 18, she began her singing training with Brigitta Seidler-Winkler, in whose vocal ensemble Immesheimer Vokalisten she was a member. From 2000 to 2007 she studied church music and singing at the Musikhochschule Köln. In Kerpen, Rhineland, she completed a full-time church music studio until 2008, where she worked as a children and church choir director and organist.

In addition to opera productions, such as a member of the Kammeroper Köln, Stefanie Schmitt performs as a soloist in oratorios and recitals. Numerous projects, concerts and concert tours, including with the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln under the direction of Rupert Huber and the Kölner Kammerchor under the direction of Peter Neumann have extended her extensive oratorio and concert repertoire from Renaissance to New Music.

Since the 2008-2009 season, Stefanie Schmitt is engaged in the Chor des Landestheaters Coburg as the first alto and performs regularly in the Erfurt area as a soloist in smaller roles on the opera stage as well as oratorio concerts and recitals. Recent roles at Landestheater Coburg have included: Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (November 2013); Bébé in Ball im Savoy (October 2015-April 2016); 2. adlige Waise in Der Rosenkavalier (March-May 2016); Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas (June-July 2016). Under the baton of Marius Popp she sang as a soloist in J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 (February 2016) and G.F. Handel: Brockes Passion, HWV 48 (March 2016).
