Kai-Rouven Seeger (Baritone)

Born: July 8, 1976 - Baden-Baden, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The German baritone and and voice coach, Kai-Rouven Seeger, began in 1983 his music studies at the Aurelius Sängerknaben Calw (1983-1994). There he was to be heard, also abroad, as a boy and soloist. At the German-State-Competition he abound as a prize winner in trio-singing. A long-lasting function as a singing teacher at the Aurelius was to be expected. Since 1994, he began a professional career as a voice student at the Musikhochschule Trossingen, Germany, Graduate Diploma in Voice Teaching and Vocal Performance (1994-1999); Trinity College of Music London, England with Postgraduate Performance Diploma in Singing (1999-2001); Hochschule für Musik Basel, Switzerland, singing & opera (2001-2003); and Gent, Belgium. Kai-Rouven owns a Graduate and Postgraduate Diploma in Voice Teaching and Vocal Performance. He studied singing with Monika Moldenhauer, Martyn Hill, Kurt Widmer and Diane Forlano. In 2000 he was awarded, together with Andrew Matthew Owen (Wales), the first prize in the Elisabeth Schumann Duo Prize for Lieder. In 2000 and 2001 he held a scholarship at St Michael's Church, Cornhill, London.

Other stations in , Kai-Rouven Seeger's singing career are the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg (A), Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart under Helmuth Rilling (2003-2008), WDR Rundfunkchor Köln (2003-2010), Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks (2004-2013), Balthasar-Neumann-Chor (Director: Thomas Hengelbrock; 2003-2010), Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe; since 2004), Ruhrtriennale Kultur Ruhr in Gelsenkirchen (Director: Florian Helgath; 2008-2014), Jos van Immerseel, Ivor Bolton, Marcus Creed, Daniel Reuss, Hervé Niquet, Johannes Leertouwer, Florian Helgath, Dmitri Juorwski, Yannis Pouspourikas, Jan Schweiger, with Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Freiburger Barockorchester, Vlaams Radio Koor (since 2011), Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier) and the pianists Christian Bezeuidenhout, Frank Braley and Jan Vermeulen. He is also a member of Ensemble BachPlus (Director: Bart Naessens).

In his first opera production Kai-Rouven Seeger appeard as Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the State College Trossingen. Afterwards a production with the Trintiy College of Music London followed. He acted as the father in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel. His Opera debut he gave in London at the Chochrone Theatre in Nino Rotas play, Il Cappello di Paglia die Firenze. Since 2005 he could be seen with the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble and Thomas Hengelbrock at Verdi's Rigoletto and Falstaff in the Festpielhaus Baden-Baden. Followed by Bellini's La Sonambula, Rossini's Il Barbiere die Sivigla, a co-production with the Met New York City and Georges Bizet's Carmen. These operas were directed likewise by Philippe Aurlaud and also Bartlet Sher. He sang at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden (2005-2010), and Muziektheater Transparant Antwerp (2007-2013), and Vlaamse Opera, Anwerp (since 2012). An important part of his stage work since 2007, were performances like RUHE with the Muziektheater Transparant Antwerp. Among actors like Josse de Pauw, Carly Wijs and Dirk Roothooft. At the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Choir he could be seen in Verdi's Nabbucco, La forza del destino and Requiem, Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina, Wagner's Tannhäuser and Korngold Das Wunder der Heliane.

Kai-Rouven Seeger married Sarah Van Mol on August 4, 2012. He currently lives in Bonheiden, Belgium.
