Andoni Sierra (Conductor)

Born: 1971 - San Sebastián, Spain

The Spanish conductor, Andoni Sierra, began his musical studies at the Conservatorio Superior de San Sebastián, where he was studying for the medium piano degree, studies that he completes from 1988 at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, where he obtained the Higher Diploma in 1992. He attended courses of choral conducting taught among others by Erik Eriksson and Pierre Cao. During this time he directed various amateur groups. At the same time, in 1991, he began his Studies in Economics Studies and Business Studies at the Universidad de Deusto where received his diploma in 1996 in the specialty of Marketing and International Trade. In 1998 he entered again at the Superior Conservatory of San Sebastian to begin to study the harpsichord with Loreto F. Imaz finishing these higher studies in 2001 with the highest marks. That same year he entered the Conservatorio Superior de Música del País Vasco (Musikene) where he studied conducting with the teachers Jorma Panula and Enrique García Asensio and where he worked, among others, with professors such as Maciej Pikulski, Jacques Ogg or Carles Guinovart, obtaining his Higher Diploma in 2006.

Currently, Andoni Sierra is a full Professor of the Orquesta del Conservatorio Francisco Escudero de San Sebastián. He is the founder and main director of Fiat Musica and Capilla Ad Litteram ensembles, with which since 1998 he has been working on various works of the Italian and German Baroque repertoire. These groups merged four years later giving rise to the Asociación Musical Conductus Ensemble, a group to which he has linked his musical career since then. In those over than 15 years of existence, Conductus Ensemble has tackled more than 50 programs and 80 different works along more than one hundred concerts. Titles as well known as the " Vespro della Beata Vergine by C. Monteverdi; Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244), a reconstruction of Markus-Passion (BWV 247), Mass in B minor (BWV 232) or the complete Motetes and various cantatas by J.S. Bach, together with such works known as Requiem by W.A. Mozart, German Requiem by Johannes Brahms or Requiem by Maurice Duruflé, have been performed in venues as different as the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Palacio Euskalduna de Bilbao or Auditorio Kursaal de San Sebastián; in festivals such as the Festival Internacional Toulouse les Orgues (France), Quincena Musical Donostiarra o el Festival de Música Antigua de Zenarruza; and in cycles as important as the Cycle of the Fundación Kursaal, the Cycle of Auditorio Riojaforum, or the Cycle of Universidad Complutense, among others, always obtaining unanimous applause from critics and the public.

From the 2014-2015 season, Andoni Sierra creates his own series within the framework of the Basílica Santa María del Coro de San Sebastián with the name of Capilla de Música de Santa María del Coro, project that wants to be the recovery of the early music chapel that for more than three centuries is existed in the basilica.
