Doris Steffan-Wagner (Soprano)

Born: December 12, 1964 - Freilassing, Bavaria, Germany

The German soprano, Doris Steffan-Wagner, studied the singing course "Musik- und Bewegungserziehung" at the Salzburger Orff-Institut with main subject Singing with Mag. Otto Rastbichler; then vocal pedagogy at the Hochschule Mozarteum Salzburg, Austria with Dr. Sarah Arneson and Monika Lenz. She has also been influenced by attending singing master-classes with Jessica Cash, Kurt Widmer, Susanne Rydén, Evelyn Tubb and Nicholas Clapton, as well as Baroque performance practice courses with Nigel North, Richard Wistreich and Howard Arman.

As a versatile concert singer, Doris Steffan-Wagner's repertoire ranges from the music of the Middle Ages to Monteverdi, J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel to Haydn, L.v. Beethoven, Schubert, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn and Rossini, always stylistically confident in form and voice. She particularly cares about Baroque music and here she was able to distinguish herself in particular with her interpretations of the vocal music of J.S. Bach. These qualities combined with a lyrical and powerful voice are reflected in numerous solo activities in concerts, radio and CD recordings in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy (eg Festival Monteverdi in Cremona, Vesperali and Progetto Martha Argerich, both Lugano), as well as in co-operation with well-known conductors, eg with Diego Fasolis or Arno Paduch. She has been a member of Coro della Radio Svizzera (Director: Diego Fasolis) since October 2001.

In addition to her concert career, Doris Steffan-Wagner teaches singing and recorder based on the bipolar Atemtypenlehre (Terlusollogie®) on a private basis and, since 2011, at the Musikschule des Überwaldes und des Weschnitztal (Odenwald). Since 2005, she has been perfecting her vocal and pedagogical skills working with Brigitta Seidler-Winkler (Immesheim), the leading representative of of vocal pedagogy based on respiratory typology. She married the German tenor Martin Steffan on August 18, 1997, and currently lives in Wald-Michelbach, Germany.
