Wolfgang Unger (Conductor)

Born: December 31, 1948 - Erzgebirge, Eastern Germany
Died: April 19, 2004 - Leipzig, Germany

The German conductor, Wolfgang Unger, was brought up in the tradition of the Dresden Kreuzkirche Choir under Rudolf Mauersberger. He completed his studies to become a musical director and choirmaster at the Weimar College of Music, where he was later to teach.

From 1973 onwards Wolfgang Unger was musical director and choirmaster of the Philharmonie in Halle and director of the Robert Franz Singakademie. In 1987 he took on the directorship of the Leipziger Universitätschor (Leipzig University Choir) and was appointed University Musical Director in 1991. He also led the Thomaner Choir ad interim. In 1992 he established the Pauliner Chamber Orchestra (of which came the Pauliner Baroque Ensemble) as a branch of the 'Leipzig University Music' society which he founded and with which he has already recorded several CD's. Extensive touring has taken him to European countries and to the USA.
