Description:

Derives from B-01. Produced by the Leipzig lithographers Blau & Co. in the mid-19^th century, sold as a single sheet by F. Hofmeister and C.F. Peters, Leipzig (viz. their music catalogues of 1855 and 1861) and as frontispiece for J.N. Forkel's biography of Bach from 1855, replacing F.W. Nettling's engraving (B-27) used in the first edition of 1802. The inscription roughly resembles Bach's signature, cf. Doc. 35, 80, 92, 122.
