The Bach Society Houston is dedicated to the music of J.S. Bach and other composers in his tradition. Its resident performing group is the professional Bach Choir & Orchestra. Distinguished guest conductors, soloists, and ensembles from across North America and Europe also perform at the Society's events, which include Abendmusik concerts, Bach Vespers, Organ Vespers, and Chamber Music concerts.
Each Bach Vespers focuses on a single sacred cantata by J.S. Bach. The Society presents these miniature masterpieces for chorus, soloists, and orchestra together with other motets and psalm settings of the period, creating a musical context similar to that in which they were first performed. The Organ Vespers series has the same goal, inviting an international roster of organists to play the masterworks of the Baroque organ repertoire on the magnificent Bach Organ at Christ the King Lutheran Church. |
