Walter Heldwein (Bass)

Born: c1942 - Traunstein, Bavaria, Germany

The German bass, Walter Heldwein, Hello, sang as a boy in the youth choir Evangelischer Jugendchor Traunstein under the conductor Friedrich Walz. The choir existed from 1959 to about 1962 and had a fantastic range of music. He was a pupil at the grammer school Traunstein, Bavaria, and one of the top singers destined for greater things. He is a prize-winners at the Internationalen Musikwettbewerb in Genf.

Walter Heldwein has given concerts in Germany and abroad, with among others, Helmuth Rilling, Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, Michael Gielen, Wolfgang Gönnenwein, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Hanns-Martin Schneidt, Peter Schreier, Horst Stein and Franz Welser-Möst.

Walter Heldwein has participated in radio, television and on CD recordings, He took a major part in the recording of the complete J.S. Bach's Cantatas under Helmuth Rilling. He participated in international festivals, including the Bachwoche Stuttgart, Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, Deutsches Bachfest, Israel Festival, Dresdner Musikfestspiele and others. He has also intensive activity as a Lieder singer with numerous Lieder in his repertoire.
