Marion Moonen (Flute)

Born: The Netherlands

The Dutch flautist, Marion Moonen, studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (Royal Conservatory in The Hague), obtaining Diplomas as Performing Musician and Teaching Musician of Flute (1976-1986) and Baroque Flute (1985-1987). She studied there flute with Paul Verheij and Frans Vester and transverse flute with Wilbert Hazelzet.

Marion Moonen has been a member of various ensembles and orchestras, including Musica Antiqua Köln (Director: Reinhard Goebel; 1992-1996); The Attaignant Consort (Director: Kate Clark; 1997-2007); Van Swieten Society (Director: Bart van Oort; 1998-2015); Concerto d'Amsterdam (Director: Mariette Holtrop; since 1990); Musica ad Rhenum (Director: Jed Wentz; since 1992); Rheinische Kantorei - Das Kleine Konzert (Director: Hermann Max; since 1992); The Bach Players (Director: Nicolette Moonen; since 1997); Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Director: Ton Koopman; since 1998); Netherlands Bach Collegium (Director: Pieter Jan Leusink; 1999-2000). With all these sensembles she regularly performs and makes radio and CD recordings.

Since the founding of the Musica ad Rhenum ensemble, she has performed and recorded much repertoire for two traversi with flutist Jed Wentz, both chamber music and concertos. With Jed Wentz she also recorded a concerto for 2 flutes by Johann Joachim Quantz with Musica Antiqua Köln. With Wilbert Hazelzet, she recorded sonatas by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach for two transverse flutes, and classical trios and quartets by J. Haydn and Johann Christian Bach, among others. In 2007 she played the Renaissance flute in CD "Madame d’Amours" by the Attaignant Consort. With pianist Bart van Oort and the Van Swieten Society she recorded the piano trios of J. Haydn as well as C.M. von Weber's piano trio of and Schubert's guitar quartet. A CD recording with The Bach Players was released in 2012, including the Orchestral Suite No. 2 by J.S. Bach. She took part in two complete recorded cycles of J.S. Bach's Cantatas: under Ton Koopman with Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (1998-2003) and under Pieter Jan Leusink with Netherlands Bach Collegium (1999-2000). She currently lives in The Hague, the Netherlands.
