Du bist mir, schnoedes Gut der Erden,
nur ein zerbrechlich schneidend Glas.
Ein Eis, das glaenzt, das sinkt, das schwindet,
was ist’s, das hier die Seele findet?
Fuerwahr, nichts mehr, denn das!

 

2. Rezitativ

 

Wohlan! Da Gottes Augen
mein Allerinnersten zusehen taugen,
da reden, schweigen, lassen tun,
da denken, wachen, ruhn,
da froehlich sein und sorgen dem Lichte seines Blicks nicht unverbergen,
so soll, durch seine Kraft, in allen mir sein Gesetz zur Regel wohlgefallen.

 

3. Arie

 

Des goettlichen Augen durch dringende Staerke
sieht alle Gedanken, Gebaerden und Werke,
durch eine von Allmacht getriebene Kraft.
Es fordert, wie wir seine Gaben
verschwendet und genuetzet haben,
die allerstrengste Rechenschaft.
