Susanne Regel (Oboe, Oboe d’amore)

Born: Freiburg in Breisgau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany

The German oboist, Susanne Regel, became fascinated with woodwind instruments already as a schoolgirl, and began an intensive study of the recorder, modern oboe and also historical oboe. In 1993, as the youngest participant, she it to the semi final of the international “Alte Musik” competition in Bruges.

In 1995 Susanne Regel was appointed solo oboe of the internationally acclaimed ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln under Reinhard Goebel. With this and also other ensembles she made her debut as instrumental soloist in the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including: Carnegie Hall (New York), Salle Pleyel (Paris), Barbican (London), Philharmonie (Berlin), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Art Center (Seoul), Tonhalle (Zrich), Alte Oper (Frankfurt), Usher Hall (Edinbourgh), De Doelen (Rotterdam) and many more…

An internationally acclaimed performer, Susanne Regel has made hundreds of radio, CD and DVD recordings. Special attention should be drawn to her participation in the complete recordings of the J.S. Bach's cantatas under John Eliot Gardiner with the English Baroque Soloists in the year 2000. At the same time she continued her study of the historical oboe under Ku Ebbinge, and the recorder under Sebastien Marc at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, where she completed her studies in 2001 with the highest marks.Susanne Regel is a regular invited guest and soloist with many international ensembles, such as: Freiburger Barockorchester (Directors: Petra Müllejans, Gottfried von der Goltz), Germany, Collegium 1704 (Director: Václav Luks), Czech Republic, le cercle de l’Harmonie (Director: Jérémie Rhorer), France, Concerto Copenhagen (Director: Lars Ulrik Mortensen), Denmark, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Director: Ton Koopman), the Netherlands, Laura Soave (Director: Sergio Azzolini), Italy and many more…

Susanne Regel is an enthusiastic participant in many international festivals, such as: Salzburger Festspiele, Boston Musicfestival, Festival Sansoucci, Prager Frühling, Festival de Saintes, Bachwoche Ansbach, Internationale Händelfestspiele, Göttingen and many more…

Susanne Regel teaches the historical oboe at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe, and at the Staatliches Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen. She also teaches in international master-classes in Essen, Minsk, St. Petersburg, Los Angeles, Washington, Trossingen and Moskau.

Passion for the Baroque oboe, the classical oboe, right up to the romantic oboe, and the instruments’ fabulous repertoire.. that is what Susanne Regel is all about.
