I go and seek with longing
Dich, meine Taube, schönste Braut.

Tell me, where have you gone away,
Dass dich mein Auge nicht mehr schaut?

My Jesus speaks of me;
O Stimme, welche mich erfreut!
What delight his voice gives me!

The justice of his salvation

is my adornment and robe of honour;
Und damit will ich bestehn,
and with these I shall pass the test
Wenn ich werd im Himmel gehn.
when I shall go to heaven.

Mein Glaube hat mich selbst so angezogen.
My faith has dressed me in this way.

So bleibt mein Herze dir gewogen,
In this way my heart remains well-disposed to you

in this way I shall to you
In Ewigkeit vertrauen und verloben.
forever be entrusted and engaged.

Wie wohl ist mir!
What good fortune is mine!
Der Himmel ist mir aufgehoben:
Heaven is reserved for me:

Und darum zieh ich dich zu mir.
And therefore I draw you towards me.

Er wird mich doch zu seinem Preis

Aufnehmen in das Paradeis;
take me up into his paradise;

Come, you beautiful crown of joy, do not delay for long!

Mach auf, mein Aufenthalt!
Open up the place where I shall stay!

I wait for you with longing.
