1

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Corno I/II, Oboe I/II, Oboe da caccia, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Auf Christi Himmelfahrt allein
On Christ's ascension [journey to heaven] alone
Ich meine Nachfahrt gründe
I base my own later journey/ascension
Und allen Zweifel, Angst und Pein
and all doubt, anguish and pain
Hiermit stets überwinde;
by this overcome forever;
Denn weil das Haupt im Himmel ist,
for since the head is in heaven,
Wird seine Glieder Jesus Christ
Zu rechter Zeit nachholen.
Jesus Christ later at the right time
will gather his members.

2

Recitative [Tenor]

Continuo

Ich bin bereit, komm, hole mich!
I am ready, come, gather me!
Hier in der Welt
Here in the world
Ist Jammer, Angst und Pein;
is misery, anxiety and pain;
Hingegen dort, in Salems Zelt,
there however , in Salem's tent,
Werd ich verkläret sein.
I shall be transfigured.
Da she ich Gott von Angesicht zu Angesicht,
There I see God face to face,
Wie mir sein heilig Wort verspricht.
as his holy word promises me.

3

Aria and Recitative [Bass]

Tromba, Violino I/II, Continuo

Auf, auf, mit hellem Schall
Up, up, with shrill sound
Verkündigt überall:
proclaim everywhere:
Mein Jesus sitzt zur Rechten!
my Jesus sits on the right!
Wer sucht mich anzufechten?
Who seeks to challenge me ?
Ist er von mir genommen,
[Although] he is taken from me,
Ich werd einst dahin kommen,
I shall one day come there
Wo mein Erlöser lebt.
where my redeemer lives,
Mein Augen werden ihn in größter Klarheit schauen.
My eyes will look in him in perfect clarity.
O könnt ich im voraus mir eine Hütte bauen!
If only I could build a shelter for myself before that time!
Wohin? Vergebner Wunsch!
For what purpose ? Vain wish!
Er wohnet nicht auf Berg und Tal,
He does not dwell on a mountain or in a valley
Sein Allmacht zeigt sich überall;
His omnipotence shows itself everywhere;
So schweig, verwegner Mund,
so be silent, rash mouth,
Und suche nicht dieselbe zu ergründen!
and do not seek to fathom yourself!

4

Aria (Duet) [Alto, Tenor]

Oboe d'amore I, Continuo

Sein Allmacht zu ergründen,
To fathom his omnipotence
Wird sich kein Mensche finden,
no man will be able.
Mein Mund verstummt und schweigt.
My mouth becomes dull and is silent.
Ich sehe durch die Sterne,
I see through the stars
Daß er sich schon von ferne
that already from this distance
Zur Rechten Gottes zeigt.
he shows himself at God's right hand.

5

Chorus [S, A, T, B]

Oboe I e Violino I col Soprano, Oboe II e Violino II coll'Alto, Oboe da caccia e Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Alsdenn so wirst du mich
Since then you will place me
Zu deiner Rechten stellen
on your right side
Und mir als deinem Kind
and to me as your clild
Ein gnädig Urteil fällen,
a gracious judgement is given,
Mich bringen zu der Lust,
bring me to that pleasure
Wo deine Herrlichkeit
where on your majesty
Ich werde schauen an
I shall gaze
In alle Ewigkeit.
for all eternity.
