1

Coro [S, A, T, B]

Violino I/II (Tromba I-III, Timpani, Oboe I-III, Viola, Continuo)

Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied!
Sing to the Lord a new song!
Die Gemeine der Heiligen soll ihn loben!
The congregation of the saints should praise him!
Lobet ihn mit Pauken und Reigen, lobet ihn mit Saiten und Pfeifen!
Praise him with drums and dances, praise him with strings and pipes!
Herr Gott, dich loben wir!
Lord God, we praise you!
Alles, was Odem hat, lobe den Herrn!
Everything that has breath praise the Lord !
Herr Gott, wir danken dir!
Lord God, we thank you!
Alleluja!

2

Chorale and Recitative [Bass, Tenor, Alto]

Violino I/II (Tromba I-III, Timpani, Oboe I-III, Viola, Continuo)

Herr Gott, dich loben wir,
Lord God, we praise you,

Bass:
Daß du mit diesem neuen Jahr
That with this new year you
Uns neues Glück und neuen Segen schenkest
bestow on us new good fortune and new blessing
Und noch in Gnaden an uns denkest.
and still think of us in your mercy.

Herr Gott, wir danken dir,
Lord God, we thank you,

Tenor:
Daß deine Gütigkeit
that your kindness
In der vergangnen Zeit
in the past time
Das ganze Land und unsre werte Stadt
has protected the whole land and our dear city
Vor Teurung, Pestilenz und Krieg behütet hat.
from high prices, pestilence and war.

Herr Gott, dich loben wir,
Lord God, we praise you,

Alto:
Denn deine Vatertreu
since your fatherly love
Hat noch kein Ende,
has still no end,
Sie wird bei uns noch alle Morgen neu.
every morning it is new for us,
Drum falten wir,
And so we join together,
Barmherzger Gott, dafür
merciful God, for this reason
In Demut unsre Hände
our hands in humility
Und sagen lebenslang
and say throughout our lives
Mit Mund und Herzen Lob und Dank.
with mouth and heart praise and thanks.

Herr Gott, wir danken dir!
Lord God, we thank you!

3

Aria [Alto]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Lobe, Zion, deinen Gott,
Praise, Zion, your God,
Lobe deinen Gott mit Freuden,
praise your God with joy,
Auf! erzähle dessen Ruhm,
Up! tell of his glory,
Der in seinem Heiligtum
who in his sanctuary
Fernerhin dich als dein Hirt
forever more as your shepherd
Will auf grüner Auen weiden.
wants to lead you to pasture in green meadows.

4

Recitative [Bass]

Continuo

Es wünsche sich die Welt,
The world may wish for
Was Fleisch und Blute wohlgefällt;
what pleases flesh and blood;
Nur eins, eins bitt ich von dem Herrn,
only one thing, one thing I ask for from the Lord,
Dies eine hätt ich gern,
this one thing I would willingly have,
Daß Jesus, meine Freude,
that by Jesus, my joy,
Mein treuer Hirt, mein Trost und Heil
my faithful shepherd, my comfort and salvation
Und meiner Seelen bestes Teil,
and my soul's best portion,
Mich als ein Schäflein seiner Weide
I as a little sheep of his pasture
Auch dieses Jahr mit seinem Schutz umfasse
for this year also may be embraced in his protection
Und nimmermehr aus seinen Armen lasse.
and nevermore released from his arms.
Sein guter Geist,
May his kind spirit,
Der mir den Weg zum Leben weist,
that shows me the way to life,
Regier und führe mich auf ebner Bahn,
direct and guide me on an even path,
So fang ich dieses Jahr in Jesu Namen an.
then I shall begin this year in Jesus' name.

5

Aria (Duetto) [Tenor, Bass]

Oboe d'amore, Continuo

Jesus soll mein alles sein,
Jesus will be everything for me,
Jesus soll mein Anfang bleiben,
Jesus will remain my starting point,
Jesus ist mein Freudenschein,
Jesus is my light of joy,
Jesu will ich mich verschreiben.
to Jesus I want to devote myself.
Jesus hilft mir durch sein Blut,
Jesus helps me through his blood,
Jesus macht mein Ende gut.
Jesus makes my end good.

6

Recitative [Tenor]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Nun, Jesus gebe,
Now, Jesus, grant
Daß mit dem neuen Jahr auch sein Gesalbter lebe;
that with the new year his anointed may also live;
Er segne beides, Stamm und Zweige,
may he bless both, trunk and branches,
Auf daß ihr Glück bis an die Wolken steige.
so that their happiness may reach the clouds.
Es segne Jesus Kirch und Schul,
May Jesus bless church and school,
Er segne alle treue Lehrer,
may he bless all faithful teachers,
Er segne seines Wortes Hörer;
may he bless those who hear his word;
Er segne Rat und Richterstuhl;
may he bless the council and judiciary;
Er gieß auch über jedes Haus
may he pour also over each house
In unsrer Stadt die Segensquellen aus;
in our city the springs of his blessing;
Er gebe, daß aufs neu
may he grant that again
Sich Fried und Treu
peace and faithfulness
In unsern Grenzen küssen mögen.
may kiss each other within our borders.
So leben wir dies ganze Jahr im Segen.
Thus we shall live throughout the whole year with his blessing.

7

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Tromba I-III, Timpani, Oboe I-III, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Laß uns das Jahr vollbringen
Let us complete the year
Zu Lob dem Namen dein,
with praise for your name,
Daß wir demselben singen
so that we sing of this
In der Christen Gemein;
in the congregation of Christians;
Wollst uns das Leben fristen
if it is your will to maintain our life
Durch dein allmächtig Hand,
through your almighty hand,
Erhalt deine lieben Christen
support your dear Christians
Und unser Vaterland.
and our fatherland.
Dein Segen zu uns wende,
Send your blessing upon us,
Gib Fried an allem Ende;
give peace everywhere;
Gib unverfälscht im Lande
give us unadulerated in the country
Dein seligmachend Wort.
your word that makes us blessed
Die Heuchler mach zuschanden
Destroy the hypocrites
Hier und an allem Ort.
here and everywhere.
