Première exécution : 17 septembre 1730
Texte : Johann Gramann (Mvt. 4) ; Anonyme (Mvts. 1-3). Selon W. Murray Young, J. S. Bach lui-même fut probablement l'auteur du livret. Le texte du mouvement 2 vient de Psaume 138 : 2 et Psaume 26 : 8.

Criez de joie vers Dieu dans tous les pays !
Was der Himmel und die Welt
Dans le ciel ou dans le monde,
An Geschöpfen in sich hält,
Toutes les créatures qui y vivent
Müssen dessen Ruhm erhöhen,
Doivent exalter sa gloire,
Und wir wollen unserm Gott
Et à notre Dieu nous voulons
Gleichfalls itzt ein Opfer bringen,
Aussi maintenant apporter une offrande
Dass er uns in Kreuz und Not
Puisque dans l'affliction et la détresse
Allezeit hat beigestanden.
À tout heure il s'est tenu à notre côté.

Wir beten zu dem Tempel an,
Nous prions dans le temple
Da Gottes Ehre wohnet,
Où l'honneur de Dieu demeure,
Da dessen Treu,
Où sa fidélité
So täglich neu,
Qui est renouvelée chaque jour
Mit lauter Segen lohnet.
Nous récompense avec une bénédiction pure.
Wir preisen, was er an uns hat getan.
Nous louons ce qu'il a fait pour nous.
Muss gleich der schwache Mund von seinen Wundern lallen,
Même si notre bouche faible doit balbutier sur ses miracles
So kann ein schlechtes Lob ihm dennoch wohlgefallen.
Pourtant des louanges imparfaites peuvent lui plaire.

Ferner alle Morgen neu.
Soit renouvelée pour nous chaque matin désormais.
So soll vor die Vatertreu
Donc, à cet amour paternel,

Un esprit reconnaissant en nous en retour
Durch ein frommes Leben weisen,
Par une vie vertueuse montrera
Dass wir deine Kinder heißen.

Der woll in uns vermehren,
Puisse sa volonté d'accroître en nous
Was er uns aus Gnaden verheißt,
Ce qu'il nous a promis par sa grâce,
Dass wir ihm fest vertrauen,
De sorte que nous croyions fermement en lui,
Gänzlich uns lass'n auf ihn,
Nous nous abandonnions complètement à lui,
Von Herzen auf ihn bauen,
Nous reposions sur lui dans nos cœurs,
Dass uns'r Herz, Mut und Sinn
Pour que notre cœur, notre esprit et notre pensée
Ihm festiglich anhangen;
Dépendent solidement de lui ;
Drauf singen wir zur Stund:
À ce sujet nous chantons maintenant :
Amen, wir werdn's erlangen,
Amen, nous réaliserons ceci,
Glaub'n wir aus Herzensgrund.
