First Part

1

Aria [Bass]

Corno I/II, Oboe d'amore I e Violino I all' unisono, Oboe d'amore II e Violino II all' unisono, Taille e Viola all' unisono, Continuo

Siehe, ich will viel Fischer aussenden,
See, I will send out many fishermen,
spricht der Herr, die sollen sie fischen.
says the Lord, who shall fish them.
Und darnach will ich viel Jäger aussenden,
And afterwards I shall send out hunters
die sollen sie fahen auf allen Bergen
who shall hunt them on all the hills
und allen Hügeln und in allen Steinritzen.
and mountains and in all the stony cracks..

2

Recitative [Tenor]

Continuo

How easily can the Almighty dispense with us
Und seine Gnade von uns kehren
,
and turn his grace from us
if our perverse mind sinfully separates itself from him
Und mit verstocktem Mut
and with an obdurate spirit
In sein Verderben rennt
.
races to its ruin.
Was aber tut
But what does
Sein vatertreu Gemüte
?
his faithful father's spirit?
Tritt er mit seiner Güte
With his kindness does he go away
,
from us just as we do from him
and does he abandon us to the deceit and malice of our enemies?

3

Aria [Tenor]

Oboe d'amore I/II, Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Nein, Gott ist allezeit geflissen,
No, God is always concerned
Uns auf gutem Weg zu wissen
to know that we're on the good way
Unter seiner Gnade Schein.

beneath the light of his grace.
Ja, wenn wir verirret sein
Indeed when we have strayed
Und die rechte Bahn verlassen,

and abandoned the right way
Will er uns gar suchen lassen.

he would certainly have search made for us.

Second Part

4

Recitative [Tenor] and Arioso [Bass]

Violino I/II, Viola, Continuo

Tenor:
Jesus sprach zu Simon:
Jesus said to Simon:

Bass:
Don't be afraid ; from now on you will catch of men.

5

Aria (Duet) [Soprano, Tenor]

Oboe d'amore I/II e Violino I/II all' unisono, Continuo

Beruft Gott selbst, so muss der Segen
If God himself arranges, then must blessings
Auf allem unsern Tun
on all our actions
Im
Übermaße ruhn,
pour down abundantly
Stünd uns gleich Furcht und Sorg entgegen.

even if fear and anxiety confront us.
Das Pfund, so er uns ausgetan,

The pound that he gave to us
Will er mit Wucher wiederhaben;

he wants to receive back with interest ;
Wenn wir es nur nicht selbst vergraben,

if we don't simply bury it,

then he helps us willingly so that it may bear fruit.

6

Recitative [Soprano]

Continuo

Was kann dich denn in deinem Wandel schrecken,
What can make you afraid in your wandering

if ,my heart , God himself stretches out his hand to you?
Vor dessen bloßem Wink schon alles Unglück weicht,

With this simple gesture misfortune vanishes

and he can mightily protect and guard you.
kommt Mühe, Überlast, Neid, Plag und Falschheit her
If troubles, burdens, envy, torment and falsehood should come

and strive to disturb and hinder what you do,
Lass kurzes Ungemach den Vorsatz nicht vermindern;

let short misery not lessen your resolve.

The work that he has ordained will not be too difficult for any one;

at all times go forward joyfully , in the end you will see

that what in the past tormented you happened for your benefit!

7

Chorale [S, A, T, B]

Oboe d'amore I/II e Violino I col Soprano, Taille e Violino II coll'Alto, Viola col Tenore, Continuo

Sing, bet und geh auf Gottes Wegen,
Sing, pray and go on God's way,
Verricht das Deine nur getreu
Perform your part only faithfully
Und trau des Himmels reichem Segen,

and trust in the rich blessing of heaven,
So wird er bei dir werden neu;

then he will be with you once more;
Denn welcher seine Zuversicht
For who places his confidence
Auf Gott setzt, den verläßt er nicht.

in God, he does not abandon.
